Positive relations between the Township of Langley and his home country, South Korea, have always been a major priority for Michael Chang. Of special note was Chang’s critical role in the unveiling of the Gapyeong Stone by the Township of Langley. The Gapyeong Stone symbolizes sacrifice, honour, and gratitude for the contributions made by Canada to the Korean War during the Battle of Gapyeong.

On July 14, 2022, Chang, Ambassador for the province of Gapyeong, was recognized for his contribution to community service to BC residents and awarded the Platinum Jubilee Commemorative plague by federal congressman John Aldag.

Aside from his role in the construction of the Gapyeong Stone, Chang has also dedicated his time and efforts to various other community organizations, including serving as the Langley Township’s cultural advisor.

Chang is set to run for city councillor in the Township of Langley election on October 15th this year.
